At this time, no decision has yet been made with regards to the identity of the person that will mix the album, but it is expected that work on the CD will proceed concurrently with the group's upcoming US tour with STATIC-X and SOIL, which is scheduled to begin on January 30th in Portland, Oregon. FOO FIGHTERS mainman Dave Grohl (ex-NIRVANA) recently posted a message on the band's site describing the experience of working with MOTORHEAD mastermind Lemmy on a song called "Shake Your Blood", which will appear on an upcoming album by Grohl's metal side-project PROBOT. In his diary message, Grohl makes obvious his clear admiration for the rock'n'roll elder, referring to him as "the coolest person I've ever recorded with in my entire life…He is God. He is the reason. He is the last man standing and no one even comes close. That guy is a true rock 'n' roller. Everyone else is just trying. I can't even begin to explain how f.cking life-altering a day in the studio with Lemmy really is. He walks in, kicks the sh.t out of a song and then he's gone… like the goddamned Lone Ranger."
As previously reported, PROBOT's upcoming CD will include a dozen-or-so tracks featuring some of metal's most celebrated and respected vocalists, including Lemmy, Cronos (VENOM), King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE/KING DIAMOND), Tom G. Fischer (ex-CELTIC FROST), Snake (VOIVOD), Eric Wagner (TROUBLE), Tom Araya (SLAYER), Max Cavalera (SOULFLY), Mike Dean (C.O.C. ), Wino (ex-THE OBSESSED) and Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL). SOULFLY have enlisted former skinsman Roy Mayorga to replace the recently-departed Joe Nunez. The newly revamped group are currently at Phoenix, Arizona’s (Brill Street) Chaton Studios recording their third full-length effort, which is scheduled to be produced by mainman Max Cavalera and engineered by Otto D’Agnolo, who had previously collaborated with Cavalera on the two NAILBOMB releases (Point Blank and Proud To Commit Commercial Suicide) and SOULFLY’s cover of BLACK SABBATH’s “Under The Sun” for the Nativity In Black II tribute CD. According to a posting on the Roadrunner Records web site, SOULFLY have completed tracking about five songs so far, and they expect to be done recording in about five weeks. Although it has yet to be confirmed, sources indicate that SOULFLY are hoping to once again enlist producer Andy Wallace to mix the effort, which is tentatively scheduled to be released in the spring. Among the titles set to appear on the CD are "Downstroy" and "Enterfaith", both of which were recently demoed with former SACRED REICH drummer Greg Hall pounding the skins.
Drummer Joe Nunez is strongly rumored to have left SOULFLY after a disagreement with band manager Gloria Cavalera over the financial terms of his most recent arrangement with the group. According to a source close to Nunez, the skinsman had signed a contract with SOULFLY that had barely enabled him to survive during the “down” periods between recording sessions and tours, effectively forcing Joe to continue to cohabit with his mother in his hometown of Chicago, a situation that had grown progressively more intolerable in the recent months. After confronting Cavalera about renegotiating the terms of his contract, Nunez was reportedly told that no further negotiations would take place, leaving the drummer no choice but to quit the band. Although presently unconfirmed, sources indicate that SOULFLY are still hoping to hold on to Nunez for the imminent recording sessions for the group’s third full-length effort, which will reportedly take place at Phoenix’s (Brill Street) Chaton Studios with SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera in the role of the producer and Otto D’Agnolo engineering the entire project. A relative unknown in metal circles, D’Agnolo had previously collaborated with Cavalera on the two NAILBOMB releases (Point Blank and Proud To Commit Commercial Suicide) and SOULFLY’s cover of BLACK SABBATH’s "Under The Sun" for the Nativity In Black II tribute CD. We will have more information on this as it becomes available. Source: BLABBERMOUTH.NET
