Norway's THE KOVENANT will enter the studio this winter to begin recording the follow-up to last year's "S.E.T.I." (Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence), tentatively due mid-2005 through Nuclear Blast Records.

"We are now set with all guns blazing towards completing the most exciting, surprising, energetic and accomplished KOVENANT record so far," the band write on their web site. "Again, this will be a drastic detour from our ever so unpredictable path, and our ideas are set to fill you with wonder and amazement. Old fans, as well as more recently acquired listeners will certainly find this to be a very characteristic KOVENANT record, and we are most pleased to say that with our emerging creation, we will reclaim our position as a force of innovation and aspiration, not just for ourselves, but for the entire scene."

The forthcoming CD, tentatively titled "The Dreaming Spires", will reportedly be THE KOVENANT's last for Nuclear Blast. One new songtitle has thus far been revealed: "Radiation King". Also planned for release is a DVD containing footage spanning the band's entire career.

Former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Singer Parts With Solo Band ....
Discuss it at M-Board

Former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and current MASTERPLAN frontman Jorn Lande has parted ways with his solo backing band, which included current MAYHEM/KOVENANT drummer Hellhammer. Personal differences are being blamed for the split, which coincides with Lande's announced departure from WILD WILLY'S GANG, the "just-for-fun" project of ex-ROAD drummer Willy Bendiksen and his friends.

Lex “Space Commander” Icon has this to say ...

Lex “Space Commander” Icon has this to say about the new The Kovenant record:

“By the time you all read this, we will already be in Woodhouse Studios, recording our new album. You can follow the process via the webcameras that have been put up throughout the studio. So click in on: www.woodhouse.de.

On the new album we have been fortunate enough to be accompanied by a string-quartet and a few sopranos. The style of the album is, as always, hard to describe, since the overall sound picture changes a lot after the album is done. One could categorize it as cybertrash/electro-rock/metal. I guess you'll just have to wait for a little while to find out. But then again, so do we… hahaha.

We are also planning to release a DVD/VHS at the beginning of next year. It will be put together as a sort of ‘Rockumenatry.’ It will feature live clips, backstage stuff, festivals, tour stuff, music videos, interviews with all the members, fan stuff, pictures, personal video material, ‘X-rated’ stuff and a whole lot more... I think the fans will really enjoy what we are putting together. And, since next year will be our 10th anniversary, we will also release a remix album, featuring a lot of major bands and persons in the music scene.”

The Kovenant’s new album S.E.T.I. is tentatively scheduled for a late 2002 European release followed by an early 2003 North American release.
