Strangely enough, a lot of doom metal efforts happened to come and cross my way lately. And not just ‘doom’ or this mainstream ‘doom / goth’ thing, but pure doom metal, which I'm sure most of you must have forgotten about. Or should I tell you, what happened to this genre lately? Yes, it currently seems to be almost nonexistent. Excluding MY DYING BRIDE, who would you name? SHAPE OF DESPAIR? DESIRE? A re-release of demo works and difficult-of-access CD by America's DUSK? THIS TANGLED WEB's promo single? A couple more? Well, this is only a few. However, today this “few” seem to be “a lot”. So well, isn't then “Dust's” re-issue a reason to rejoice? Since sorrowful, grievous doom metal deeply rooted in early nineties is exactly what these Irish offer anyone worthy enough to stand this soundtrack to a personal apocalypse. “Dust” is not just a regular re-edition; besides six original tracks (recorded at Academy in 2000, and made available a year later), it also features a song taken from the '98 demo as well as an unmixed song from forthcoming CD (“The Sullen Sulcus”, available approximately later this year). And needless to say, all the nine are excellent. Mostly slow as snail, it's surprisingly variable and thus exciting all the way through. Add fascinating “clean” (male) vocals, growling which is doubtlessly one of the most impressive I've ever heard and enigmatic arrangements, and… what will you get? MOURNING BELOVETH's “Dust”. A synonym for ‘doom’. A synonym for ‘perfection’.
