"LACUNA COIL counter their moody gothic elements with lively prog-rock, frisky electronica, and dreamy ambient sections. It's [Cristina] Scabbia's voice, however, that steals the show." - Revolver Magazine
After a flying to Los Angeles to film their video for "Heaven's A Lie" - a track off their recent album Comalies (pronounced "coma-lize") - the six Italians that comprise LACUNA COIL have launched their three-week Fair Judgment Tour headlined by Opeth. Ever wonder what goes on at home before a tour? Lead singer Cristina Scabbia lets you in on it:
"What can I say about my Easter vacation? I stayed with my family, forgetting the chaos of the touristy places in Milan, and ate like a pig. I've never denied it: I love to cook and to eat, that's why when I get older, I'll be a fat whale, hahaha! Beside any jokes, I enjoyed so much this little bit of quiet time before the American tour with Opeth, when we'll be busy everyday, with our music. I really can't wait, believe me. See you there!"
Following the band's stint opening for Opeth and Danzig on the two-date "Blackest Of The Black" tour, LACUNA COIL will embark on their first North American headlining tour in late May with label mates INTO ETERNITY and Nuclear Blast's Tapping The Vein. Check the tour dates section for cities & venues.
Collectors, please note: Autographed versions of Comalies on vinyl and the import-only "Heaven's A Lie" single are available now from Century Media's Webshop and Mail-Order.
In spite of all the mainstream hype over the crossover debut of Evanescence onto the popular music scene, long-time underground fans were quick to spot the similarity of their sound to LACUNA COIL's, who've been cultivating their musical craft since 1996. While this isn't an issue of who came first or even who does it better, all fingers point in the direction of us knowing a good thing when we hear it long before anyone else knows about it.
LACUNA COIL will be returning to North America for the second time in two years to provide direct support to the nationally-acclaimed Opeth on the Fair Judgment Tour, set to begin in Seattle, Washington on April 29th and to open for the headlining Danzig on the Blackest Of The Black tour featuring Superjoint Ritual, Nile, and Opeth for two shows. What does lead singer Cristina Scabbia have to say about the upcoming tours and the fan response to Comalies?
"I really can't wait! I've been waiting sooooo long for this moment! We spent so many good moments over there [in 2001] that we are just excited and happy to see all the people who have been waiting for us to arrive... I didn't really expect this kind of overwhelming reaction to Comalies even though I was sure about the good quality of the album itself. Can you believe we have never met Opeth before, even though we saw their great show in Milan with Katatonia [laughs]? I'm sure this trip will be a great chance to meet new fans, more great people, and some very talented musicians."
Check the tour dates section for North American show dates, cities, and venues. You'll have more than one month to decide which days you're gonna call in sick to work. Chicago's "death jazz-core" band Yakuza will be opening for the tour between April 29th & May 12th; Beyond The Embrace will open all shows for the last two weeks, beginning May 14th in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
