Destiny's End vocalist James Rivera has decided to play the annual Bang Your Head festival, in Balingen, Germany with a reunited Helstar, despite the fact his current outfit has released Transition, the strongest platter of their career. The diminutive man with the giant voice explains how it came to pass. "The whole came about because Destiny's End did Bang Your Head last year. I did the grand finale, getting onstage with the Scorpions and singing 'He's A Woman, She's A Man'. Right after the show, the response from the chief of staff was great and they don't like to have the same bands every year. WatchTower did a reunion, then the organizers approached me that night, 'Do you know who we want to do the reunion show next year? Helstar' I told them I'd see what I could do."
"Getting these guys away from their barbecue pits and softball games, was a hard deal. I couldn't get one, exact line-up, so this Helstar is going to be made up of members from all the different years. They've all been working, just doing what I call the Beaver Cleaver life. They've been playing on there own. I know for a fact, Larry still has three (Marshall) stacks sitting in a little jam room, with memorabilia. They're not doing anything musically. I'm the only one who said, 'I've already wasted all these years of my life, I might as well keep going.' The line-up will be Andre Corbin, who was on Nosferatu, on drums will be Russell Deleon, who was on Multiples Of Black and my Vigilante career, Aaron Garza, the same deal and Jerry Abarca. We're all Houstonians. We've been rehearsing and try to get together at least two times a week, until June. When the time comes, we'll have the show down so tight, it will be incredible."
While there's currently no plans to release any new Helstar material, Rivera is thinking ahead, spurred in part by the reception given to last year's live, bootleg quality, T'was The Night Of A Hellish Xmas CD. "Metal Blade had that idea and I thought it was good, just to keep something of James Rivera going, while there was a gap between Destiny's End records. It was actually taken from a video, which is why it has such a horrible sound. It's as raw as raw can be. I'm thinking about sending an offer to Century Media, Nuclear Blast and Metal Blade, 'Why don't you record this reunion show at Bang Your Head (in Germany, June 2001) and put it out as a live thing?'"
